The two-time British Touring Car Championship winner recently turned back the clock to secure silverware at Silverstone during the meeting to celebrate 50 year of Historic motorsport.

Portadown-born Turkington is set for another trip down memory lane tomorrow (Saturday) following an invitation to compete in a Supercar.

The County Down venue will host rounds five and six of the Tool Dynamics Supercar Series as part of a packed Kirkistown programme.

Turkington’s previous appearance on a race track resulted in runners-up spot within the HSCC Guards Trophy at Silverstone.

The Historic Sports Car Club-organised event marked Turkington’s debut behind the wheel of a Brabham BT5 once steered to glory by Formula One legend Graham Hill.

Turkington qualified third and reduced that time by four seconds in the main event on the way to second overall. He moved into second around the halfway mark.

“I now need to clean all the flies off my helmet,” said Turkington. “I’ve had a brilliant weekend with Sam Thomas Racing and thoroughly enjoyed driving the unique Brabham.

“The car was really fun to drive and, once I understood its characteristics, I was able to go quicker each lap.

“It was much faster on the straights than I was expecting and the handling was really precise.

“If we’d been able to get a test day beforehand, I’m confident we could have qualified on pole and fought for victory but that doesn’t take away from the result we achieved.

“Many of the cars are touching 40 to 50 years old with incredible value but the racing is just as competitive as any other series I’ve raced in.

“It’s also the first time I’ve raced a car without a roof.”
