TV green light for Armoy races

Greenlight will produce two 1-hour programmes to be shown on channels around the world including Eurosport, Fox Sports Australia and Speed Channel in the USA.

Coverage in the UK will also include Sky Sports in the Max Power programme and Channel 5 in Motorsport Mundial.

Bill Kennedy, Clerk of the Course at the Club, said: “We are delighted to have a new contract in place which will not only give fans of road racing a great opportunity to see more of the race, but will also allow coverage of the RiverRidge Recycling ‘Race of the Legends’ to be broadcast to a wider audience than in previous years.

“This wouldn’t have been possible without help from the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, so a big thank you has to go to them.”

Meanwhile, the Irish road racing championship will step up a gear in just over a week’s time, when the Mid Antrim Motorcycle Club promote the 66th running of their local race meeting.

Preparations are already well under way for the racing, the practice for which will be on Friday 15th, with racing will be on Saturday 16th June.

After moving from the Rathkenny circuit to Clough in 1989 the meeting has gone from strength to strength, and now is firmly established as one of the best road meetings in Ireland.

The club held its annual media launch last Friday night in Clough Village, where details of plans were given to the Press.

This year the club has moved the meeting from its traditional date in August to a June date for various reasons, mostly in the anticipation of reasonable weather which unfortunately has not been kind for the past three years.

It was also recognised that with the Armoy Road Races and the Mid Antrim 150 on consecutive weekends, the two road races in the same area so close together was harming the event from a promotional aspect.

The problems of last year, when a deliberate oil spillage resulted in the meeting being cancelled, are hopefully behind the club and as far as the club are concerned its onwards and upwards for the race.

All concerned are determined to put on a great show for the riders and spectators who come from far and near to Clough Village.

The club is also indebted to the generosity of its loyal sponsors whcih has enabled the event to continue.
