Two join on loan

McCaul, a 21 year-old midfielder, joined the Lurgan Blues after Saturday’s game at Windsor Park and 27 year-old Lindsay will train with Gary Hamilton’s men tonight with a view to signing until the end of the season.

However, Linfield boss David Jeffrey has made sure to get a first-option on the highly-rated duo when their contracts expire in the summer.

“If I could do a deal for both of them, I would sign them for longer but David Jeffrey rates them so highly that he wants first option on them,” said Glenavon gaffer Hamilton.

“If they both play well then there’s the chance that they’ll go back to Linfield but by the same token, they’ll benefit Glenavon while they’re here.”

The centre-half has joined Glenavon with a view to getting more first-team football and boss Hamilton is confident that Lindsay will help his side during his loan spell.

“I’m bringing in a quality player,” he said.

“I played with him at Portadown when he was only 17 and he always stood out for me. The biggest thing with Kris is his temperament. I always said that when I became a manager, Kris would be one of the first players I’d try to sign. He’s a player you can trust and you know that he will give you 100%.

“Kris has got a bit of a knock at the minute. He trained with Linfield on Tuesday and will train with us on Thursday. We’ll assess him and if everything goes well we’ll pass him fit and he’ll be available for Saturday’s game.”

Midfielder McCaul, formerly of Plymouth Argyle, has also had limited first-team opportunities and has been signed to fill the hole on Glenavon’s right side, left by the injured Peter McCann.

“He hadn’t got as many first team opportunities (at Linfield) as he would have liked and he’s out to prove a point with us now,” said Hamilton.

“I’ve signed him to play on the right side although he can play in central midfield as well and on the left if we need him to. He’s a naturally right-sided player and is a dangerous player and very technically gifted.

“I’ve spoken to a lot of people about him and they’ve all said that he has been done an injustice by not getting a game at Linfield but he has the likes of Jamie Mulgrew, Michael Gault and Robert Garrett, who have all played for Northern Ireland, in front of him.

“He knows that I let players express themselves and he has a lot of ability. You have to let players like that express themselves.”

Meanwhile, forward Diarmuid O’Carroll has signed for Cliftonville, despite Glenavon offering him a new one-year contract.

O’Carroll follows Ryan Harpur and Alan Davidson out through the exit door at Mourneview Park whilst talks are still ongoing with Kevin Kelbie with a view to terminating his contract.
