Two local bowlers win Irish titles

Two local bowlers have won the Association of Irish Indoor Bowling titles at last week's Championships held in the Jim Baker Stadium.

Scott Jess, who plays outdoor at Lisnagarvey and indoor at Belfast Stadium won the Irish Junior Singles, beating another Lisburn bowler, Stephen Kirkwood 21-19 in the semi-final before proceeding to the final where he had an easy 21-13 win over Sam Barkley CAIBC.

John McCullough started his bowling career outdoors at Lisnagarvey and now works at Belfast Stadium.

He has won a few Irish indoor titles recently and was on the rostrum again at the Baker Stadium when he won the Irish pairs with Simon Martin, who both play for Belfast Indoor Bowling Club.

Martin also went on to win the singles after partnering McCullough to a 21-7 pairs win against Ballybrakes pair, Stephen Falls and Nigel Robinson.

They had beaten S. Barkley and A. Coleman CAIBC 18-14 in the semi-final.

Scott Jess has been named in the senior Irish team, joining Lisnagarvey and Belfast IBC team mate, Neil Mulholland.

They are joined by the Kirkwood brothers, Robert and Stephen, from Lisburn, who also have been elevated to the senior team.
