He broke the calculated standard scratch score of nett 68 by five shots, hence the two shot reduction to his handicap.

Lyle Rea (23) was runner-up with 41 points.

This was a incredible result for Lyle.

He had zero points after two holes and he dropped five shots over the last three holes.

In between these two bad patches, Lyle played fantastic golf. Stephen Downey (19) was third with 39 points.

Every golfer can look back on their round and wish they had done something differently.

Stephen never finished the par five 14th hole.

If he could have parred it, he would have won the competition.

Bill McCandless (5) won the best gross prize with a one over par 70.

Bill has been in great form since the start of the season.

The prize for best senior went to P.J. Johnston(16) with 38 points.

The “nearly men” were Mark McCoy on 39 points and a group of five players with 38 points namely Danny O’Boyle, Matthew Mallon, Chris McAvoy, Jonathan Burns and Jake Redpath.

And, to cap it all, Kieran had the only “2” on the day and he picked up a massive rollover.

All in all, it was a rewarding few hours for Kieran at the golf club last Sunday.

Monday 16 May

There are quite a number of new names appearing among the prizewinners at Banbridge Golf Club. That’s all good, as every club needs an influx of new members.

Freddie Rowan (15) is one such newcomer and he won last Monday’s sweep in some style.

He was only 4 over par for the 14 holes played and that gave him a winning score of 36 points.

Freddie is obviously one to look out for.
