EOGHAN RUADH

Last week’s Nifty Fifty winner was Mr E Donnelly of Derryvale and the winning ticket was sold by Gareth McGrath. The winner didn’t match the bonus number so that £5000 jackpot is still there to be won. For your chance to win why not purchase a ticket from any of our weekly sellers? Better still, sign up for club membership at £5 per month by direct debit and you’ll be entered in the next fifty draws from the date of joining. With Christmas coming, why not take a chance. See any committee member for details.

Awards just keep coming Eoghan Ruadh’s way this season. Twenty five years on from when his father Pádraig captained Queen’s University Hurlers in the Fitzgibbon Cup final, earning a Combined Universities Hurling selection to boot, young Ruairí Devlin was this week named on the Ulster Colleges All-Star Hurling team at centre-half back. Congratulations to Ruairí, his proud parents and his school.

The draw has now been made for the second Dan Morgan Memorial Masters Ball-Wall Hurling Competition. Featuring two sections, one for current players and another for veterans the competition will be played off between 31st December 2012 and 13th January 2013. Tómas Colton and Pádraig Devlin are taken to contest the veteran’s final according to those in the know. John Devlin defends his title in the section reserved for current players against a host of young pretenders..

As usual the club monks (that’s those without current girlfriends in tow), have been busily using their spare time to draft some very funny pages on a range of social media manuscripts. All sorts of spoof scenarios are beginning to appear. These range from all the latest betting on the forthcoming competitions as well as betting on the upcoming Christmas Jumpers Night for all the club coaches. All club coaches and officials are asked to assemble at Cano’s this Thursday evening, preferably wearing their favourite Christmas Jumper. The winner will enjoy a shopping trip to Belfast with Cathal and Paula, all night parking at Castle Court with midnight return the following night.

Now a plug for this year’s club calendar and this year designer Cathal McErlean has really surpassed himself. So if your son or grandson played any part in Eoghan Ruadh’s clean sweep this year, you really ought to own one of these historic mementos. Every team is featured including events throughout the year that took Eoghan Ruadh far and wide. The calendars are available from Cathal McErlean right up to the end of the week, if you want one in time for Christmas and really are worth the £10 cost. So hurry as I hear stocks are fast running out.

Best wishes for a happy, safe and enjoyable Christmas are extended to all our club members, supporters and friends both at home and abroad. As we look forward to 2013 it promises to be a significant milestone for our club. Twenty five years will have passed since arguably the most successful year in our history - 1988. What a year that was for the club - a Tyrone league, championship and All Ireland Under 14 Feile win, a senior Intermediate championship win, an Ulster Scor title amongst the many achievements. 2013 will also see the tenth anniversary of the founding of Donaghmore Ladies GAA which has grown in strength and participation, year on year. Ten years ago we launched our centenary book in the old Youth Club, now we enjoy the facilities of the magnificent Torrent Complex. Tyrone won their first ever Sam Maguire, now we have amassed three. In the last ten years we have seen three Donaghmore men lift Sam Maguire on the steps of the Hogan stand alongside their team mates, and many more all Ireland Minor and Hogan Cup participants. We have also of course played in 3 O’Neill cup semi – finals, reached a minor championship final and won several youth league titles, so it has been 10 years of significant progress at so many levels from our centenary year, and maybe the best is yet to come….
