Tyrone Club Chats

Our U21s began their campaign over the last couple of weeks. Their first game was at home to Pomeroy and the lads put in a strong performance to win on a scoreline of 1-12 to 0-13. Another two league points were gained when Donaghmore conceded to field.Their final game in this group is away to Cookstown, this Saturday 1 December, at 2pm.

Well done to our Novelty Act team and mentors who participated in the Tyrone Scór na nÓg Final.

The Lotto result for Monday 5 November was as follows: winning numbers were 5, 12, 15 and 17. To mark the historic achievement of Eoghan Ruadh’s capture of every hurling title available in Tyrone in 2012, Mayor Phelim Gildernew hosted a Civic Reception at the Council offices on Tuesday night past. The Mayor congratulated the club on its outstanding success and the positive contribution it made to the life and confidence of the town and Borough. Mayor Gildernew referred to the pride the Council took in the sporting successes of all clubs and sports people within the Borough. He applauded all concerned and urged all our young players to translate their success on the field into other aspects of their lives; their school work, their career decisions and subsequent working lives. Eoghan Ruadh’s success had been unparalleled in 2012. Other speakers on the night included club Cathaoirleacht Tomas Colton as well as County Cathaoirleacht Ciarán McLaughlin and club member and Councillor Barry “Ba” Monteith. A presentation followed in the Council Chambers which featured a brief history of the town and a snapshot of the wonderful facilities now open at the Council’s Hill of the O’Neill and Ranfurly House Arts and Visitors Centre. Eoghan Ruadh extends its sincere appreciation to all involved on the night particularly the parents, invited guests players and coaches as well as all the Council staff. Indeed Eoghan Ruadh made a swift return to the Hill of the O’Neill on Sunday past where all winning teams, captains and managers gathered for an historic photograph to mark 2012’s achievements. The Club Photo-shoot was followed by the Club AGM at which took place in the Iggy Jones Room, O’Neill Park, Dungannon. A small but committed turn-out heard reports on all aspects of club life. Indeed, given the success of the last year it was perhaps unsurprising that there were few changes in committee personnel. With the club now a couple of months ahead of its normal annual schedule, the new committee will no doubt press ahead with plans for 2013. AGHALOO

The club mass (for all deceased members and patrons associated with the club) has been arranged for Saturday 1st December at 8pm.

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) / Convention will take place on Sunday 2nd December at 2pm. All Nominations or Recommendations must be submitted to Connor McCarron before 6.00pm on Sunday 25th November 2012. Correspondence received after this deadline will not be included.

In order to acknowledge and celebrate this years achievements, Aghaloo O’Neill’s are hosting an event entitled “A Year To Remember” which will look back on the 2012 season and talk to all those involved. A four-course dinner will be served and presentations will be made to the players on the winning underage panels whilst the Senior and Reserve players of the year will also be announced. The dinner will be held in the Hillgrove hotel on Friday 7th December beginning promptly at 8pm. The event will end no later than 11.30pm. All players on the Under 16 and Under 18 panels will receive a complimentary ticket from Aghaloo. Tickets are £20 for all others attending and are available from all members of the Aghaloo committee and team management.

ROCK

The U21s were defeated by Eskra away on Saturday last on a final scoreline of Eskra 1-6 Rock 0-6. The Annual General Meeting of Rock St. Patricks GFC will take place in the Mobile on Wednesday 5th December at 8pm. Nomination forms are currently available from McLernons Shop and from the club website www.rockstpatricksgac.com. Nominations and motions for the AGM will only be accepted on the official form which should be returned to Club Secretary Darren Mullan or any committee member no later than Saturday 1st December. Late forms will not be considered. All those with an interest in the affairs of Rock St. Patricks GFC are encouraged and most welcome to attend the AGM.

Best of luck to Ciaran Gourley who has been nominated as a defender in the Teamtalk Allstar Awards which take place in the Great Northern Hotel, Bundoran this Friday 30th November. Lets hope Ciaran, who has been one of our most consistent players this year gets the recognition he fully deserves.

Rock Ladies had their AGM on Wednesday past, and there were a few changes to our committee. We’d like to thank Stephen Carroll for his work throughout the year and many years as our chairperson, Aislinn Carroll for a great job as secretary this last year and Amelia McWilliams for her work throughout the year and for many years as our Treasurer and also Peter Kilpatrick for his work and endeavours throughout the years as a committee member. EDENDORK

The 2012 Christmas Bazaar will be on Sunday 9th December in the Des Fox Pavilion between 4-6 p.m; with Santa arriving at 5 pm. Everybody welcome.

There is a clothes bank at the entrance of the field. Anyone who wishes to dispose of any old or used clothing please do so, as the club gains financially for all clothing collected. No duvets or pillows please.

Irish dancing lessons are on Monday nights in the Des Fox Pavilion; 6-7pm for kids and 7-8pm for adults. 

There is a committee meeting in the Des Fox Pavilion at 8pm on Thursday 6th December. All committee members must attend.

Past pupils and staff of Edendork Primary school are invited to a special celebration of Mass on 12/12/12 at 7pm in St Malachy’s Church Edendork to celebrate the Centenary of the current school building. This is followed by refreshments in the school and a display of children’s work, old photographs, registers reports and memorabilia. To assist with the displays, the school would welcome any photographs of past pupils. Please leave these with the Principal A. Mc Alinden as soon as possible.

DERRYLAUGHAN

The Youth presentation evening will take place on Sunday 2nd December at 5pm. The club’s AGM will take place on Monday 3rd December at 7pm also in the Washingbay centre.

The annual club dinner dance is scheduled for the Greenvale hotel on Friday 1st February.

DVD’s of come dance with Derrylaughan can now be ordered from Orlaigh McAliskey priced at £5.

The POP (Promoting our Participation) programme for teenagers currently running on Monday evenings at the Washingbay Centre needs material to make Christmas decorations. If you have suitable material or a surplus of old decorations the group would by very grateful if you could donate these to them. This can be left at the Centre on Monday evenings between 7 and 9 p.m.

ARDBOE

Lotto Numbers on Friday 23rd of November were 16, 22, 24, 28.  Match three winners were Ita Quinn, John Devlin, Patricia Wylie and next weeks jackpot is £5600.

The U21 team defeated Moy on Sunday 18th November on a score line of 3:12 to 1:13 and Derrylaughan on Sunday 25th November on a score line of 2-13 to 2-10. They will play Moortown in their final group game, fixture details to be confirmed.

The club minor team play the Cavan champions, Lavey-Castlerahan, in the Ulster Minor Championship hosted by St Pauls Belfast.  This game is fixed for Saturday 1st December at 1:30pm and will take place at St Pauls home pitch on the Shaws Road in Belfast.  The club would encourage as many people as possible to come out and support the team.

Gaelic start for Boys and Girls P1, P2 and P3 continues in St Patrick’s Primary School on Wednesday nights, 7 to 8 pm. Each child should bring their own water bottle and parents must be in attendance.

Indoor training starts in the football pavilion for all U13/ U14 players and any U16 players not currently involved with the minor squad on Monday 26th November @ 7pm.

All footballers who intend to play senior and reserve football in 2013 are requested to attend a meeting with the new management team on Friday 30th November upstairs in the parish centre at 7pm.

New Ardboe hoodies and jerseys are now in stock and available to purchase at Intersport in Cookstown.

Aerobics continue in the Parish Centre on Mondays and Wednesdays from 7–8pm.

Gerry’s weekly quiz continues every Thursday night @ 9pm the Parish Centre. New teams welcome.

The youth group meets in the Parish Centre on Tuesdays at 6:30pm, all children aged 12 up are welcome to attend.

 The club is proud to announce their next production – A WIDOWS PARADISE – A play by Sam Cree. A Widows Paradise is an Irish Comedy and the production will be taking place on Saturday 1st December and Saturday 8th December in the Parish Centre (followed by a disco on both nights). DONAGHMORE

The Youth presentation (boys and Girls) U8 to U16 will take place in the Torrent Complex on Saturday 8th December. Parents and players are both invited. Donaghmore’s Wee Pat’s continues every Friday evening at 6.30pm in the Torrent Complex. Both boys and girls are welcome and parents are encouraged to stay and participate in the session. Indoor youth football also take place every Saturday morning with the P3-P4 group at 9am and P5-P7 at 10am.

DUNGANNON

A well attended Annual General meeting took place in the Iggy Jones room on Friday evening, Secretary Oliver McHugh was praised for a very detailed report on the years past events, this was followed by the Chairman’s address, where Chris Rafferty spoke of this year’s achievements and of the challenges that lie ahead of us. Paul Doris and Danny Barr presided over the Election of the new incoming Committee.

Dungannon Clarkes would like to wish senior players Darragh Begley and Patrick Quinn good luck as they attend the teamtalkmag all-star presentation night in the great Hotel Bundoran.

Lotto numbers for Sunday 18th November were 13, 14, 19, 24 there were three match 3s. The Jackpot now stands at £2,800 and the draw takes place every Sunday night in McGrath’s Bar.

Dungannon Thomas Clarkes offers its condolences to the Quinn Family on the death of Packie, grandfather of Senior player Patrick, and to the Ryan family on the death of former minor player Gerard.

CLONOE

Last week lotto numbers were 8, 17, 23 and 24. There were no jackpot winners. One matched three numbers; John McFlynn. Next week’s jackpot is £825.

Last Sunday the Rahillys finally played their league semi final where they came up against county champions Errigal Ciaran. In a terrific first half Clonoe showed no sign of rustiness and built up early lead which meant they led 6-1 at half time. At the start of the second half Clonoe came out strong idea where they kicked three unanswered points putting them into a 9-1 lead. Errigal battled back into the game and with tem minutes to go they found themselves back on level terms. The rahillys dug deep and the winning score came from Connor McAliskey and the Rahillys held on to progress to the league final where they will meet local neighbours Coalisland.

We had an excellent response at our first audition day, but if you think you’ve got what it takes, come to Clonoe Community Centre between 2pm – 6pm. The annual youth presentation will take place on Sunday 16th December and the club would like to thank all the youth managers who helped out this year.

Clonoe’s big bingo will take place on Sunday 9th December at 6pm. With £4000 to be won on the day make sure you are there to try and win some of the money. This would be a fantastic lift with Christmas just around the corner.

This Friday night the big prize-fighter night is taking place in Clonoe Community Centre. With 8 boxers taking place and with the winner taking all it promises to be a great night of action in the ring. Clonoe is being represented by local man Shane Coney. Tickets £20 for ringside and £10 for upstairs. The fight night starts at 8pm sharp.

The club shop opens on a Friday night from 7.30 to 8.30. The date has passed for any Christmas orders.

Zumba classes will continue in the club on Tuesday and Friday nights at 6.30pm. Zumba also takes place on a Wednesday night 8-9 in the big hall and starting next week Zumba is on a Monday morning from 10 to 11 price £3.50. Pilates takes place on Monday night from 7 - 8pm. Pilates will also take place now on a Friday morning from 10 to 11, all are welcomed to attend.

On Saturday there is a dance class from 10 to 4. All types of dancing will be covered from modern, tap and ballet. All are welcomed to attend.

Do you want to get in shape for xmas?? If so join the bootcamp on Tuesday and Thursday 10-11am. On Sundays from 2-3 for 16-21 year olds.

Bellyblasts take place on Wednesday night 7-8. Everyone is welcomed to attend these sessions. All classes £3.50.

On Friday 7th December Elvis is coming to the Community Centre. So don’t miss this great Elvis tribute band. Admission £5.

MOY

St Joseph’s Hall, Omagh was the place to be last Sunday afternoon (25th November) for the Final of the 2012 Tyrone Scór na nÓg. This was the first year in a long time that An Mhaigh Tír na nÓg G.A.C. had qualified for the deciding stage of county competition, and our young representatives certainly did us proud. Donning the Moy club colours and performing on county final day were our An Rince Foirne (Céilí Dancing) team of Ellen O’Neill, Lavina O’Neill, Caoimhe Magee, Aisling Magee, Louise Keppler and Siobhan Keppler, and Bailéad Ghrúpa (Ballad Group) members Ellen Donohue, Anna McDonald, Brianna Mallon and Kathryn Regan. It was a terrific achievement for the club to have these two acts appearing in the Tyrone Final. Our céilí dancers, under the expert tutelage of Fionnuala Cavanagh, and ballad singers put a lot of hard work and preparation into this year’s competition, and their performances last weekend were excellent. Indeed, all our young Scór representatives showed wonderful enthusiasm and talent throughout the 2012 competition to make it beyond the opening round. They proved to be great ambassadors for An Mhaigh G.A.C. and will no doubt be looking forward to representing the club again at future Scór events. Well done to everyone involved, including our team mentors and family members of each of the participants. Special thanks again must go to our Cultural Officer Caoimhe Lynch, and her parents Liam and Angela, who have helped revive interest in Scór among An Mhaigh GAA members. Next up is the Scór Sinsear for adult members in January 2013. A number of An Mhaigh club members have already expressed a willingness to take part in the senior competition, and anyone else who would like to get involved should get in touch with Caoimhe Lynch, Liam Lynch or any member of the committee.

An Mhaigh Under 21 footballers slipped to a four point defeat at home to Moortown St Malachy’s in round two of the knock-out competition, last Saturday afternoon (24th November). An Mhaigh’s last remaining fixture in this grade will be at home to Derrylaughan Kevin Barry’s on Saturday 1st December at 2.00pm. An Mhaigh G.A.C. 2012 Youth Presentation took place in St John’s Parochial Hall, Moy on the afternoon of Sunday 18th November. Youth Officer Gerry Fearon reports: “This year’s event, which was attended by a large number of our youth players and their family members, was ably hosted by the ever-present Paud Loughran.

“Paud called proceedings to order and introduced our three special guests for the evening: Paul Rouse, who is part of our senior training team and one of the leading trainers in Ulster working at Jordanstown with elite athletes; Sean Cavanagh, who needs no introduction to the people of the Moy; and the All-Ireland Intermediate 7-a-side trophy, which was a great achievement for the Moy, and good that the youth of the club got to see and share in this.

“Paud got things going by inviting Sean to the stage. Sean spoke to the youth and the parents alike, giving advice and words of encouragement. He remembered that he had sat in the hall at youth presentations and didn’t always get an award. He congratulated all of those that were about to receive awards but reminded everyone that it’s more about enjoying football.

“Sean reminded players to listen to their coaches and encouraged parents to encourage their children to put in the practice in their own gardens. He thanked the youth committee for the chance to speak and felt confident that the Moy’s future was looking good when so many young players were present in the hall.

“The individual presentations then took place. All awards were presented by Paul Rouse, while each of the coaches talked about how their respective seasons panned out. There were several trophies on show that had been won over the year by the under 8 and under 10 teams. The girls had made it to four county finals and the boys to one final.”

“The girls individual award winners were as follows: Lucy McAlary (U-10 Player of the Year); Aideen O’Hanlon (Most Improved U-10 Player); Seanin Doherty (U-12 Player of the Year); Aiste Balsevciute (Most Improved U-12 Player); Anna McDonald (U-14 Player of the Year); Aine McElroy (U-16 Player of the Year); and Eimear McCormack (U-18 Player of the Year).

“The boys individual award winners were as follows: Conor Mackle (U-8 Player of the Year); Ronan O’Hagan (Most Improved U-8 Player); Steve Donaghy (U-10 Player of the Year); Shane Mackle (Most Improved U-10 Player); Adam Donaghy (U-12 Player of the Year); Scott Donaghy (Most Improved U-12 Player); Gavin Kelly (U-13 Player of the Year); Emmett Lavery (U-14 Player of the Year); Chris O’Neill (U-16 Player of the Year); and Mark McConville (U-18 Player of the Year).

“Paul Rouse was then called on to say a few words. He congratulated the Moy club on running such a successful evening and, looking at the table full of trophies, he said that the Moy could be pleased with their efforts for the year. He spoke of the success that Sean Cavanagh had as a player and that it does not come about by accident. It takes hard work and working on your own as well as working with your coaches. He praised the club for its work with the youth and said that, anytime he was down at the pitch, he always saw coaches working with players and that this was a good sign for the club.”

Gerry Fearon, himself, closed proceedings and took the opportunity to thank Mary Daly, Peter McKearney and all the senior committee for allowing the youth committee to run the various tournaments throughout the year. Martin Conroy was also congratulated for his work at the annual tournaments in the Moy, and he called for more support from parents to help in the running of these.

Gerry thanked his guests, Paul and Sean, for their words of encouragement and praised all the coaches for their effort throughout the year. He called on parents to continue with their support of the club and coaches and to encourage their children in practice and training. He thanked those that provided refreshments and, last but not least, he thanked the youth committee for their help all year.

The Saturday evening Vigil Mass in St John’s Church, Moy on Saturday 24th November was offered for the deceased members of An Mhaigh Tír na nÓg G.A.C. A number of youth and adult representatives from our club were directly involved in the Mass, which remembered all An Mhaigh Gaels who have gone to their eternal rest.

Senior footballers and club officers Eimear Gildernew and Ryan O’Neill said the main readings while six of our young underage members each read special Prayers of the Faithful. During the Offertory Procession, honorary vice-President and youth team mentor Mickey Kavanagh brought a Moy senior team jersey to the altar while Youth Officer Gerry Fearon handed over a football. Club Secretary Mary Daly and honorary vice-President Frankie McQuade, meanwhile, carried the water and wine. Special thanks to Rev Fr John Hughes CC who was the celebrant for the Mass, the choir for the beautiful music and singing, and those who helped organise this very important event in our club’s calendar.

The winter 2012 edition of our Club Tír na nÓg Newsletter will soon be completed and be posted out to all current Club Tír na nÓg members in the next couple of weeks. This special 16-page colour issue will be packed with a number of interesting features including photographs of various club events, player interviews, coaching tips, end of year quiz, member profiles, Irish language section, Moy memories, and much more.

Our club’s Annual General Meeting will be held in An Mhaigh G.A.C. Clubrooms on Tuesday 11th December at 7.00pm. As well as reflecting on the events and activities of the 2012 year, local Gaels will have the opportunity to air their views on the club’s future at this convention.

A special Adult Presentation and Club Tír na nÓg Appreciation Night will be held in the Ryandale, Moy on Sunday 16th December at 7.00pm. This will be a casual affair in which all club members and friends are invited to attend. More details later.
