The U13s were defeated at the final hurdle of the Grade 4 League against Drumquin at Carrickmore on Sunday last. Losing at half time 3-1 to 2-0, Rock, playing some great football, fought back admirably to lead 3-2 to 3-1 with the game entering the final minutes. But Drumquin hit three late points to run out winners on a final scoreline of Rock 3-2 Drumquin 3-4. Congratulations to Drumquin and commiserations to our lads who have had a great campaign with this being their first defeat. Well done to all the U13 players and management of Adrian Corrigan, Adrian Nugent, Eamon Daly and Colm Mackle on reaching the final.

The U21’s opening game in the Grade 2 Championship at home to Strabane on Saturday last finished in a draw. A Strabane goal with virtually the last kick of the game saw the sides finish level in a game which Rock had dominated for long periods but didn’t put the scores on the board. Rock led at half time 0-7 to 1-2 and despite a Kevin Mallon goal in the second half they had to be content with a draw in a game which they probably should have won. Final score: Rock 1-8 Strabane 2-5. The next U21 game is due to be away to Aghyaran next Saturday 24th November at 2pm. Rock team and scorers: J. McAuley; R. Litter, N.McWilliams, S.O’Neill; P.O’Neill, M.McAleer, P.McCreesh; D. Carroll, C McWilliams; P.J. Hayden, C.McCreesh(0-5), P. Ward; K. Mallon (1-1), A. McGarrity (0-2), E. McGarrity.

Eoghan Ruadh minors exited the Ulster Club minor championship on Sunday after a heavy defeat to Naomh Eoin of Belfast. After dishing out heavy defeats to others en route to the semi-final, Sunday was Eoghan Ruadh’s turn to get a taste of their own medicine. It has to be said that this was and is an exceptional Naomh Eoin side, winners of back to back minor championships and leagues in hurling and football within their own county; they have handed out heavy defeats to all who have crossed their paths. Eoghan Ruadh got a taste of what it’s like to take on the big boys of Ulster Hurling. They played well and battled hard for an hour but lacked the cuteness, first touch and deftness of their opponents as well as the all round sharpness. Naomh Eoin announced their intentions from the start racing into a comfortable lead and generally bossing affairs throughout. They were aided by an Eoghan Ruadh side that appeared in awe of their opponents. Still it was an achievement to get this far but all teams will have to work tirelessly on their first touch if we are to compete seriously at a higher level. In what has been a great year for the club, we congratulate our minors on doing so well and thank them, their parents, supporters and the management team of Stephen Donnelly, John Devlin, Mark Winters and Pádraig McHugh. A severe lack of games and competition allied to the placement minor hurling competitions at the backend of the year does make it somewhat more difficult to bring teams on from juvenile to minor. They laboured under heavy expectations to complete the clean sweep of trophies and came through manfully.

To mark the historic achievement of winning every hurling title available in Tyrone in 2012, a civic reception to mark the success of Eoghan Ruadh in 2012 will be hosted by Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council Mayor on Tuesday 20th November at 7:15pm in the Council offices, Circular Road. This follows on a proposal from club member and Independent Councilor Barry “Ba” Monteith, himself no stranger to clean sweeps when it comes to the polls. The reception will be hosted by Mayor Phelim Gildernew and will feature a drinks reception, photo call, Mayor’s speech, Club Chairman’s address, and a Buffett Supper. All players at minor and senior level as well as youth captains, their parents and coaches are asked make every effort to be available to toast a very successful playing year. All those attending should wear club tops, black trousers/jeans. For further details contact Ciarán Coyle. And to mark that achievement there will be a photo-session for ALL players from ALL teams next Sunday at the Hill of O’Neill, Castle Hill Dungannon. All players, officials, coaches, committee members and especially those associated with our winning underage teams are asked to be at the Hill of O’Neill for 1:30pm next Sunday. So come along and mark this special moment to record your involvement with the family of Eoghan Ruadh. Again all members should wear club tops and black bottoms, either tracksuit, trousers or jeans. captains should also bring trophies with them.

The Club Photo-shoot will be followed by the Club AGM, Sunday 25th November at 3:30pm, in the Iggy Jones Room, O’Neill Park, Dungannon. All present, past and new members welcome, light refreshments will be served.

Finally a mention for the Camógs of Naomh Treasa. Their U14s had a great turnout for the first indoor session at the Youth Club on Sunday morning past. Next Sunday’s session will be outdoors at the Dan Morgan Hurling Wall before resuming indoors on Sunday 2nd December, 12 noon to 1 o’clock. Underage indoor camogie continues on Friday nights at 8pm in the Youth Club while Eoghan Ruadh’s underage continues every Monday, 6pm to 8:30pm. All welcome.

COALISLAND

Our Seniors are in League final and await the winners of Clonoe and Errigal Ciaran.

The U21 season finally got underway, the lads played Clonoe. The conditions were heavy all round . Leading at half time 08-03 the lads came under serious pressure during the second half. Clonoe were in reach after scoring a goal to leave 1 point between the sides. During this stage the Fianna was dealt a blow when Shane Lyons received a second yellow, but fair play to U 21,s as they dug deep going into the last quarter of the game to win by 1 point. 0-11 to 1-7. Well done !!
