U10 team impresses as they blow over Windmill

Slane were players short on the day but were determined to put in a good show and they got off to a great start when Luke Cochrane fired in a hard hitting tackle. He found Aaron Shilliday with a good pass, he lobbed the ball up field to Sophie Megaw and her delightful pass to Slane’s highest goalscorer Marc Cochrane was converted with power and precision to put Slane one up.

Kerrie Hanna pulled off two magnificent saves to keep Slane in the lead and on the fourth minute Joseph Weir found Marc Cochrane up the left and he let fly with a thunderous shot from 25 yards out that sailed into the top corner.

Niall Martin had an effort but the keeper was well placed to save, again Hanna was well placed to save from two rasping shots but the Windmill striker followed in to convert at the third time of asking.

Slane went into the break one goal better off than the opposition.

The scores were level early in the second half but a minute a later Cochrane hit his hit trick when he was played in by Sophie and he hammered hard and low into the corner.

Hanna again came to the rescue when she saved well plucking the ball out of the air, rolled it to Shilliday who pumped it forward to Megaw who half volleyed goalward but a wonder save from the Windmill keeper was headed into the top corner by Marc.

Slane finished off a fine morning work when Megaw set up Marc for his double hot trick with a pile driver into the bottom corner.

Overall a great display by the young Slane side that have been waiting a long time for this kind of result. The entire team played well on the day but player of the match went to Marc Cochrane.
