Banbridge Town U11s 3

SATURDAY saw Banbridge Juniors face Warrenpoint in the Mid Ulster Youth League Knockout Cup.

With the pitch in excellent condition and the sun shining the match got off to a hectic pace with both side seeing a lot of the ball early on.

Warrenpoint made an early break, against the run off play, catching the Banbridge defence unawares scoring after five minutes.

The Banbridge boys regrouped and fought back, however, neither side managed to dominate the play. With half time rapidly approaching Jake Dermott latched onto a loose ball feeding it through to Jake Dennison who calmly slotted ball into the bottom right corner of the Warrenpoint net on the ninth minute.

The second half started at the same hectic pace as the first and again with only five minutes played Warrenpoint found the back of the Banbridge net following a goal mouth scramble. This appeared to unsettle the normally focused Banbridge side who found it difficult to get back into the game.

This resulted in Warrenpoint finding the goal for a third time from a well driven long shot in the 16th minute. Warrenpoint continued to pile on the pressure which resulted in them being awarded a penalty in the 20th minute which despite the best efforts of the Banbridge keeper, Billy Campbell, brought the score to 4-1 to Warrenpoint.

This disappointment seemed to spur on the Banbridge boys who upped their game and only two minutes later they responded well with a fine Ryan Mulholland goal.

With time quickly running out the already heavily worked Banbridge midfield produced a fine through ball to Jake Dennison, who found the back of the net for a second time, to set up what was to be a nail biting final few minutes.

With the now highly vocal Banbridge supporters cheering on the home side the boys gave their all, however time was against them and all their effort was in vain with the final result ending 4-3 to Warrenpoint.

This week's Banbridge man of the match is Billy Campbell for yet another outstanding performance in goal.
