U11s run riot

AFTER a long winter break the Carnbane Youth League resumed on Saturday morning and Rathfriland U11’s started the second half of their campaign with a tricky tie against Valley Rangers.

Valley threatened on occasion but Rathfriland’s Carnbane League debutante Jack Wills showed great calm and composure at center back to thwart every Rangers attack. R

Rathfriland persevered and took the lead after 15 minutes when Jason Weir created a chance through some outstanding work on the right wing to beat the full back and crossed beautifully to Cormac McElroy at the back post who converted with a right foot volley.

Rathfriland doubled their just before half time when Thomas Ingram broke from centre midfield and showed some neat footwork to slip past the defenders and round the keeper to slot home.

The third goal for Rathfriland eventually came when Thomas Ingram again broke from midfield and hit a ferocious drive which the goalkeeper parried superbly only to see Cameron Frizell chip him with an excellent long range effort.

Rathfriland continued to push forward in search of more goals and were rewarded when Jason Weir broke free of his marker and finished with a left foot drive.

They continued to pressure Valley and from a resulting corner Jason Weir delivered to the center of the box where Cameron Frizell rose highest to score his second of the game with a well taken header.
