It was an end to end game with plenty for both sets of supporters to cheer on.

Slane were on the back foot early on and Martin saved well at the back post.

With 10 minutes gone the visitors broke down the right, the ball was hit high over the Slane keeper’s head and into the top corner of the net for the opening goal.

Philip Galloway hit a thunder bolt of a shot from 40 yards out that bounced back off the bar and was cleared by the Valley defence who were under a lot of pressure as Slane pushed forward.

Slane were unlucky early on in the second half when Ervine Boyd hit a shot of the post. Again Slane were caught out with a ball over the top and the Valley striker punished Slane at the back or their second goal.

Blakely played the ball wide to Boyd who lobbed the ball into the penalty area and Scott hit wide.

Boyd had a shot well saved and Dickson also hit well but the Valley keeper was on top of his game to keep the ball out of the net. He again hit the post with a brilliant shot at the near post and Valley broke up field with a good move to convert with a well taken goal.

Despite the scoreline it was a good performance by Slane who deserved more from this game and just couldn’t convert on the day.

Best for Slane was Philip Galloway at the rear who never put a foot wrong during the whole game.
