U15s return with a win

TOWN Juniors Under-15’s faced league leaders Willowbank on Saturday after a three week lay off, and returned with all three points in the bag after a late winner.

Playing into a stiff breeze in the first period, the Juniors had to weather Willowbank pressure throughout the half and they showed they were up to the task superbly - limiting their opponents to a few half chances.

At the other end the busy duo of Diamond and Thompson kept the opposition defence on their toes as the first half ended in stalemate.

The second period began with the locals enjoying a strong wind advantage and immediately put pressure on Willowbank, but the league leaders were always a danger on the break, and 10 minutes into the half they took the lead after a swift move down the right flank.

Banbridge weren’t prepared to lie down and from a Thompson corner, Luke Diamond equalised with a firm header.

The locals made their substitutions to try and force a winner but they had to endure a lot of pressure as the game neared conclusion.

With just three minutes left on the clock goalkeeper Stuart Wilson launched a long kickout and with the Willowfield defence beaten, substitute Jack McCartan lobbed the keeper for the winner secured all three points for Town.

This was a superb, gutsy performance from all 15 players and this win will prove to be a great boost for the second half of the season.
