U16s deserved to win the game

AFTER last week’s heavy defeat by Distillery the Banbridge boys were keen to reverse that result and came out very strongly in this cup quarter final.

The locals had by far the best of the early play and Josh Cargin almost opened the scoring after four minutes following some good work by Josh Buchanan but his shot went just wide.

Ryan Williamson had a chance in the 12th minute but his effort went just over the bar. Declan Loy then played a lovely ball through to Josh Cargin whose header almost caught the keeper off his line but he managed to touch it over the bar.

Declan Loy also came close with long range shot and Davy Gray hit the crossbar direct from a corner. Shortly after Distillery scored totally against the run of play with a header from a cross from the left.

In the second half it was more of the same with Banbridge pushing hard for an equaliser. Josh Cargin and Declan Loy both had chances but the keeper made good saves. As the game became stretched Distillery had a couple of chances denied by excellent saves from keeper William Maxwell.

The Whites got a second goal 10 minutes from time and though Banbridge kept pushing they couldn’t get back into the game.

On their overall performance Banbridge deserved to win this one but just were unable to find the back of the net.
