U16s faced an uphill task against Valley

Valley Rangers U16s 2

Moneyslane U16s 1

MONEYSLANE U16s travelled to Kilkeel last weekend to play Valley Rangers in a league game in the Mid-Ulster Youth league and were unlucky in the end to finish on the wrong end of a 2-1 scoreline.

Slane started brightly and had a shot go just over from Jamie Dickson.

Valley were strong in the middle of the park but Slane were matching them tackle for tackle and it was enthralling game to watch.

Both teams were using the pace of the wingers to great effect but Slane were strong at the back with Nathan Martin playing well in goals and Philip Galloway, Thomas Martin and Ervine Boyd were working their socks off.

Valley opened the scoring on the half hour with a ball over the top of the Slane defence, their striker raced in to convert for the opening goal.

Slane came out strongly in the second half and Dickson scored a belter of a goal hammering it over the top of the keeper and into the roof of the net.

They upped the tempo and pushed Valley back into their own half but they were dangerous on the break and again caught Slane out at the back with a cross into the box that was converted by the unmarked number nine.

This was the best performance by Slane so far this season and the managementstaff will build on it for the game away to St Marys next week.

Best for Slane on the day was Jamie Dickson.
