U16s overcome stuttering start to see off Grosvenor Youth

After a few uncomfortable encounters in the early stages they began to draw upon their qualities which so far this season have kept them up at the top of the table.

Their first meaningful move came from Stephen McCavitt when he directed a dangerous corner into the penalty box which found Michael Jordan, who headed the ball narrowly wide of the post.

Town were moving nearer to breaking the deadlock after 10 minutes when Josh Cargin came close from a low drilled effort from 20 yards.

The breakthrough finally came after 25 minutes when Niall McCreanor carried the ball from the defence into the midfield and slid a great ball into the path of Josh Cargin, who controlled it and smashed the ball from the edge of the penalty box into the far corner of the net.

Town pushed for a second before the break and came close once again after Declan Loy set up previous goal scorer Josh Cargin, whose left foot shot went just over the bar.

Town were encouraged by their earlier chances and made a rapid start to the second half. Josh Cargin pulled the ball back to Michael Jordan and his low shot, aimed into the bottom corner was tremendously blocked by an opposing defender.

However the ball was reflected out to Ryan Williamson and his left footed volley doubled the Town’s lead. The Juniors found it difficult to threaten the Grosvenor goal any further, although they dealt successfully with any attacks from the opposition - ensuring that goalkeeper William Maxwell had little to take care of.

Another three points gained for the Town and this means that they remain in top spot.
