U17s run in 76 points against Instonians

DROMORE travelled to Belfast on a sunny Saturday morning to face an Instonians club team which they had not played before and knew nothing about but who on appearance looked to be large in the pack and well drilled in set pieces.

The locals were undaunted and fired up, determined to make an impression in their opening league game.

They settled early and opened their score within a few minutes when eye-catching Adam Reaney was given a quick penalty pass and scored the first of his four first half tries, two of which were individual intercept passes with Reaney running from the half way line to score close to the posts.

The game saw the return of hard running forward Johnnie Rossbottom to the Dromore forward team who dominated the loose play and turned over ball enabling the backs and forwards to interplay displaying some fantastic passes and offloads resulting in further tries for Matty Davis (2) and TJ Morris (3).

Captain Ryan Hughes was also rewarded for all his ball carrying in the centre of the park with a try which moved the ball from one side of the pitch to the other again combining forward and back running in the open spaces as Instonians struggled to cope with the speed of the backs and strong middle of the park runs from Dromore forwards.

Ross Bingham was dynamic in the returning of the ball from Instonian restarts and bagged a try from a quick penalty in the second half.

Marcus Heath finished the try scoring when he took a crash ball from Morris and ran between opposing centres to complete a 12 try win over the opposition.

Dromore did concede two tries in this game and although the score line of 14- 76 tells its own story and reflects Dromores strength in finishing of opportunities in the loose play.

Their coach did identify a number of areas that the team need to improve on before their next league excursion which no doubt will be addressed in Wednesday night training sessions.
