U7s come up against well drilled Windmill

RATHFRILAND U7’s came up against a strong, well drilled Windmill team and put in a spirited performance on a cold and damp morning.

Rathfriland started brightly with the impressive Callum Weir and Ethan Walsh battling well against their more experienced opponents to create the first opportunity for Callum Travers to fire narrowly wide.

The Newry side then began to take control and scored two goals despite the best efforts of young Jake Gracey in goals.

Further Rathfriland pressure from the hard working pairing of Alfie McConville and Aaron Monaghan could not lead to a goal, largely thanks to some fine goalkeeping from the Windmill keeper and some bad luck as Monaghan hit the post with a couple of half chances. The introduction of Luke Rooney and new man Ronan McGivern late on could not turn the tide for Rathfriland and the Stars scored again to seal the victory. This was however, a promising performance from the team against the league hot shots.
