Uel scoops Russell Turkington Memorial Cup

AFTER the Darren Clarke Trophy on St Patrick's Day off the back tees, the Valley Course reverted to forward tees on Saturday.

Five handicapper Uel Loughrey scored a massive 48 points in a sub par round.

Uel does some juvenile coaching and includes a young Graeme McDowell in his list of pupils, he has now shown that he practises what he preaches.

Uel was four points ahead of Liam Mullan on 44 off 17 who, in turn was three up on Donal McNicholl, winner from St Patrick’s Day. Donal needed his 20 points back to hold off Andrew McLaughlin (8) 41 with 19 back.

Adrian Proctor (10) and David McLaughlin were in fifth and sixth spots with 39 each with a tie break needed over the final six holes.

Wayne Telford again swept away the gross prize with 69.
