Ulster Age Groups medals for Loreto College swimmers

Two talented young swimmers from Loreto College Coleraine won medals at the Ulster Age Group Championships.

The competition, which featured the Province’s best young swimmers was held in Bangor during the first weekend of the Summer Term.

Eoin Mullan, who is a Year 9 student at Loreto College had a fantastic outing at the event.

He won Gold in the 100 metres Freestyle, Silver in the 100 metres Butterfly and Bronze in the 400 metres Individual Medley events to complete a memorable day’s swimming for the Loreto pupil.

Eoin is a member of the Ulster Development Squad and he will now go on to compete in the Irish Age Groups championships, which are being held in July.

Shannon Baird (Year 8) also participated in theUlsetr Championships, entering five individual events and one team relay.   

She got through to the finals in all the events she entered and brought home five Personal Bests with a Bronze medal in the 100m Breaststroke.

It was an equally impressive performance by Shannon on the day.

These swims have also given Shannon two further qualifying times for the Irish Age Group Championships in July at the National Aquatic Centre in Dublin.

A member of Coleraine Swimming Club, Shannon enjoys regular competitive training with the Ulster Performance Centre Development Squad in Bangor and also the Swim Ulster Talent Development Squad in Magherafelt.

Eoin and Shannon were congratulated on this successful day’s competition by Mr Michael James, Principal of Loreto College, on behalf of all the staff and students of Loreto College.
