Ulster Colleges All Star Awards among sporting successes

THE PE Department of St Mary’s Grammar School has had much to celebrate recently, following a string of notable sporting successes.

Three students from the school have had their sporting excellence recognised in the Ulster Colleges All Star Awards. Year 14 students, Bronagh McGillian and Aine McAllister, will both receive an Ulster Colleges Camogie All Star Award, while Year 13 student, Terence O’Brien, attended a banquet in the Europa Hotel, Belfast where he was presented with a

Danske Bank Ulster Colleges Football All Star Award.

In Sportshall Athletics, John Donaghy, a member of the County Derry Sportshall Athletics Team, travelled to Birmingham where he competed in the Sportshall UK Final.

Meanwhile, other students enjoyed success in the Ulster Sportshall Athletics Final. Aislinn Craig finished second place in the 4 lap race and third place in the 4x2 lap relay.

Simon McErlain achieved first place in the six lap race and third place in the 8 lap paarlauf. Cathal McErlean and Ryan McCloy both finished first in the 4x2 lap relay team. In netball, Year 8 girls represented St Mary’s in the NEBSSA Championship. Having reached the semi-final of the Dalton Cup, the St Mary’s team is now due to meet St Patrick’s College, Cavan.
