Ulster success for Loughgiel School of Irish Dancing

That wasn’t the case and Halloween marked another glorious week for them when they won an amazing twenty first place awards in various competitions including solos, teams and couples and 3-hands.

They had travelled to the Ulster Irish Dance Championships in Letterkenny where they joined over 40 schools in attendance at the event seen as the pinnacle of the festival dancing calendar.

As with all sports, success does not come easy and teachers, Colette O’Mullan, Leisa Gillan and Denise Dobbin strongly agree. Beaming with pride they spoke about the commitment and dedication from both their pupils and parents has been commendable and that on occasion over the past month they have found themselves in practice seven nights per week.

It was truly evident in the standard of their performances and the school has indeed a great reputation throughout the province when it comes to creativity and choreography in both solo and team dancing.

Speaking after the Ulsters the teachers commented: “As the curtain falls on the Ulster Championships 2015, we as teachers of Loughgiel School of Irish Dancing are yet again bursting with pride. We have returned from Letterkenny with no less than 20 first place awards. Put those alongside the other placings that were achieved at the championships and I think it safe to say we had a pretty successful Ulsters.

“However, despite our success in the competitions, we feel that our biggest achievement as a school is the work ethic that is shown week in and week out from our dancers and the level of commitment shown both by them and their parents.”

The school continues to go from strength to strength and it certainly proves that genuine hard work does pay off.
