Unbeaten at Portlaoise

Last Saturday P6 boys along with coaches and parents made the long journey to represent Lurgan Tigers in the National Festival of Rugby in Portlaoise Co. Laois.

It was a great opportunity for the boys with teams from both North and South involved in the festival.

The Tigers made an excellent start against a tough Westport side and through determination and skill secured a win with tries from Finn Rankin and Matthew Daly.

Match two was against Blackrock with the Tigers dominating from the whistle, their defence was well organised stopping them in their tracks at every opportunity. Final score was 5-0 with tries from Charlie Williamson, Jack Gardiner, Finn Rankin, Regan McKinley and Jack Boyce.

The Tigers great form continued against Wexford with the boys making space, finding gaps and putting on an excellent display of teamwork to secure another win by 3 tries to 1. Tries from Matthew Daly, Angus Cunningham and Michael Waite.

The final match was against Bohemians. Although tired the boys never gave up, their defence stood strong and although they had majority ball possession they just couldn’t reach the try line.

The match finished with a nil all draw meaning they were the only team in their group unbeaten.
