Banbridge Town U10s 0

Shankill Juniors 3

BANBRIDGE Town U10s played host to Shankill Juniors in the first round of the Mayor’s Cup.

It was always going to be a tough game as Shankill have only lost once this season, though with home advantage hopes were high, as the Town supporters packed the home stand at Crystal Park.

Banbridge kicked off the first half and with their first meaningful attack coming down the right they surged into the box after some neat passing between Donnelly and Redpath, who fizzed a shot just over the bar from a tight angle.

The game was turning into a midfield battle which Shankill were starting to edge and after some neat play in the middle they played the ball forward to their number nine who held his run to beat the offside trap and slotted home the first goal.

Woods and McCavitt were fighting hard in the middle against a very tough Shankill side. Redpath, who had dropped deeper, collected the ball from one of these scrapes and went on a blistering run into the box, only to hit his shot straight at the keeper, who threw the ball straight to Scott, he in turn hitting it on the volley only to see the keeper save.

From the resulting goal-kick Shankill played the ball forward to score their second goal.

Shankill went looking for a third before the break, but Hunter made three great saves to keep Banbridge in with a shout at half-time.

Banbridge started the second half on top and were out-playing the visitors. An early corner taken by Annett was cleared only as far as the young winger, who passed into the box to Donnelly.

Donnelly slid the ball to the near post to Moore who turned and fired the ball into the net. The celebrations were cut short though when the referee blew for offside.

The Town battled on but had the heart taken out of them when Shankill scored two contentious goals.
