Under 11s through to cup semi-final

Lurgan Tigers Under 11s managed to complete their Quoile Cup quarter final match with Cregagh at the third attempt on Friday evening.

Captain Jonny Hunter won the toss and had no hesitation in batting first. It proved to be the correct decision as he and his fellow opener Callum Gibson put on a hundred for the first wicket.

Callum was the more dominant of the two hitting a number of boundaries on his way to a half century.

Jonny Hunter was given out leg before wicket for 30 in the 18th over and although the Tigers lost further wickets in the final overs the scoreboard never stopped moving. The Tigers finished on 114 with Callum Gibson top scoring with an excellent 68.

For Cregagh much depended on their opening pair who had scored big runs in the previous round. They started briskly but Jack Maxwell struck in his first over to clean bowl one of them.

That opened up an end for the Tigers which Ethan Currie exploited to claim three wickets in quick succession.

However, while the other Cregagh opener was at the crease Lurgan could not relax. His dismissal came in somewhat bizarre circumstances. A dropped catch was followed by some poor calling by the batsmen and the opener was run out by an Ethan Currie direct hit.

The Tigers then closed out the match to win by 20 runs. They now take on CSNI in the semi final, in what will be a repeat of last year’s final.
