Under 15s edged out by Banbridge

CARRICK Youth under 15s were edged out by Banbridge by two points at the weekend.

In the opening exchanges Carrick’s speed play took the home side by surprise when John Stewart powered over. Just moments later a neat switch involving Jake Gardiner saw number eight Neil Beggs coast to the line. Wallace converted from the resulting kick.

In what was a bruising battle up front Carrick lost valuable forwards James Carson and John Turner through injury. This loss proved a big blow and Carrick’s confidence faltered while Banbridge ran in five tries in the space of twenty minutes either side of half time.

Showing great determination, Jake Porter, Cody Surgenor and Neil Beggs led a remarkable fightback from 29-12 down. The trio took the rest of the pack on a journey to revive Carrick’s fortunes with some courageous drives into Banbridge territory where Callum Wilson, John Stewart and late on Sam Wallace all scored tries in a wonderful display of battling rugby. In the end, Carrick pressed hard but couldn’t find the score to turn the tables.

Final score; Banbridge 29-27 Carrick.
