Under 15's through in National League Cup

SATURDAY saw the two Bertie Peacock Youths Under-10 teams play in the Knockout Cup at the University.

Berties team one who took on cup favourites Limavady in the first match of the day. It was a tough game for the 'Little Ants' who battled hard but fell to a 2-0 defeat, however the boys gave a good account of themselves as only one goal separated the teams for a long period of the game.

Berties were looking dangerous on the break but towards the end of the game Limavady made the game safe scoring a second. Best for Bertie's was goalkeeper Adam McClendon.

Team two faced Eglinton for the second week in a row with Bertie's in confident mood after winning last week's encounter 4-2.

Peacocks started the game going straight on the attack and causing all sorts of problems for the Eglinton boys scoring five goals without reply in the first half. The hosts continued to attack their opponents after the break and added a further three goals to leave the final score Bertie's 8 Eglinton 0.

This result allows the team to progress to the final which will be held in the coming weeks. Goal scorers for Peacocks were: Caleb Wan (3), Joe McClements (2), Cameron Vauls, Albert Dallas and Ross Henderson.

Derby win for under 12’s

Bertie Peacocks under 12’s made the short trip to Dervock on Saturday, where they took on Ballymoney.

The visitors grabbed a goal in the first minute when Andy Donnell got on the end of a Ross McElphatrick cross to beat the Ballymoney keeper.

This was a dream start for Bertie’s boys, who knew that the Ballymoney defence would be hard to breakdown.

Going into the second half the young Peacocks knew they were going to be in for a tough battle.

Stephen Connor controlled things from the back, encouraging his defence to switch the ball from side to side in order to try to create some space.

With both teams cancelling each other out, it looked as if there would be no more goals, but up stepped Daniel Bradley with just 10 minutes left on the clock to slot home.

Under 13’s ease past St Mary’s

The under 13’s went six point clear at the top of the National League, with a fine 3-1 win over St Mary’s at Mullusk.

The ‘Wee Ants’ were dominant for most of the first half, and their hard work paid off when Herald fired home from 12 yards.

Bertie’s got their second when Mitchell got fouled inside the box, and Edgar put the spot kick away to put his side 2-0 up at half-time.

The second half was much the same as the first, but a mistake in defence allowed St. Mary's to win a corner and the home side pulled a goal back.

With five minutes to go Gray scored to put the under 13’s in cruise control.

This Saturday the ynder 13's play Aquinas in the quarter final of the Tesco Boys Cup at Coleraine University (11am).

Away win for under 14’s

The under 14’s had to shuffle their pack for their clash with st Mary’s.

Ross McDowell played in the centre of midfield, and Andrew Harbinson and William Wright moved to centre back to partner Travis Doherty.

The Coleraine youngsters bossed the first half playing some great football. Matthew Maguire was involved In every Berties attack linking up well with Corey McMullan, Andrew Harbinson, Paddy Toner and the very influential Ross McDowell.

Despite their efforts, the under 14’s couldn’t find the back of the net. At the other end, St Mary’s did break down the Bertie’s defence and grabbed the opener just before the break.

In the second half the Peacocks kept the pressure on St Mary’s, and it paid off when Maguire’s corner found the top corner of the net. The Peacocks were awarded a penalty soon after, Maguire made no mistake to seal a 2-1 win.

Under 15’s progress in National League Cup

Dungoyne were the opponents for the under 15’s on Saturday.

The Peacocks did well to come back twice in the tie against a strong Dungoyne outfit.

Wilson should have put the Coleraine side ahead early on, but it was Dungoyne who took an early lead when they scored against the run of play.

After 20 minutes the under 15’s pulled a goal back through Deans Vauls.

Dungoyne controlled most of the early play in the second half and went ahead for a second time but Adam McVicker scored a well earned equaliser.

With no further scores after extra time, penalties were needed.

Gallagher stepped up first for the Peacocks and made no mistake. Forgrave pulled off a wonder save from Dungoyne’s first penalty, before Kilgore converted.

Dungoyne scored on their second attempt but McVicker hit the crossbar with Peacock’s third.

Forgrave saved another from Dungoyne and the nail biting shoot-out ended when Edgar scored to put his side through to the next round.
