Under-age blitz at Eoghan Rua

At the “Morelli’s to Go” Invitational Under-age football tournament on Saturday at Pairc Eoghan Rua the host club managed to secure all three titles against neighbours and local rivals Ballerin and Limavady.

The format was round robin, each team played each other once and the top team received a bye to the final, with the second and third playing off to reach the final.

At Under-8 the final was one of drama, 100% commitment and high intensity as Ballerin and Eoghan Rua could not be separated in a titanic battle, until Eoin Lagan beat three players to drive the ball to the roof of the net.

In the Under-9 final again it was Coleraine and Ballerin and this time it was Conall McGinn who was the difference between the two sides with a tremendous second half performance that secured the title for the Eoghan Rua boys.

The Under -10 final featured Eoghan Rua and Limavady. One point separated these two sides in the League section. This was another tight game, and Coleraine pulled away in the last two minutes as the extra game began to take its toll on the Wofhounds.

The Eoghan Rua thanked the visiting clubs for making the day such a success and in particular their sponsors Morelli’s to Go for making the event possible.

This Saturday it is the turn of the Under -12 squads as the Eoghan Rua outfit host visitors from Steelstown Derry, St Theresa’s Belfast, Limavady Wolfhounds and Buncrana.
