Under the Spotlight

DAVID WATSON

Age: 25

Position: Hooker

Home town: Ballymoney

Club: Ballymoney RFC

What clubs have you previously played for?

Never really played for any other clubs except for maybe my University side, Kings Scholars RFC

What team do you support? Ulster

What is your favourite away ground? To play at would probably be Coleraine as its always full of atmosphere because of the rivalry but to watch at would probably be the Stadio Flaminio

Who is your rugby idol?

Keith Wood was class when he was playing but playing at the minute Schalk Britz the Saracens Hooker is pretty awesome.

Any pre-match superstitions? I eat at least one banana before a game but most people do that, after a game that we win I always have Danny help me get my pads and under armour off?

Who is the best player you have played with and against? I played against Andrew Trimble when I was still at school, too many boys I have played with to mention

What is the best advice you have been given by a manager?

Champions don't lie down

If you could introduce one thing to your sport what would it be? A video match official who is able to effect rulings at the scrum. Being a front rower it's easy to tell what's going on when you are in a scrum. The ref can never see both sides so even if he was making the right decision on one side the props on the opposite side could be doing whatever the like. It's one of those things, but it does get frustrating

Who do you think will win the Six Nations?

I'd love to say Ireland and I'd say it'll be a close call for the Triple Crown between them and England but I can't see France being beaten

Who is your ideal WAG?

Don't think my WAG will mind me saying Cheryl Cole

Who has been the greatest influence on your rugby career?

Don't really know there's been a lot of different ones through School, Uni and Club.

If you could invite three players for a pint who would you invite?

Tommy Bowe cause he seems like a bit of a nutter, Donncha O'Callaghan for similar reasons and Keith Wood.

Who is the best/worst dressed in your changing room?

Scott Nelson would win the worst dressed hands down if he hadn't been away at Uni so I feel its unfair to give it to him. Brett our New Zealander is a good replacement at scrum half and as worst dressed. Best dressed would probably be Nigel Nevin, think his mummy still dresses him though, so don't know if that counts

Who does the most moaning on the pitch?

My younger brother Chris is the biggest moaner without a doubt.

Who's your team's best player?

It's hard to say because everyone has their different roles to play but the Ulster Junior Representatives are probably the easy way to answer this question, Marty, Aidy and James.

Who is your team's biggest show pony?

Marty or Bracey, although they both normally manage to score from the end of it so well give them a break.

What has been the highlight of your rugby career?

It's a tough one, I played at Lansdowne Road when I was 12 which was pretty good, probably getting into Qualifying One a couple of seasons ago and being the dark horses in the league. It's not just the same anymore because the opposition now know what to expect

What has been the low point of your career?

Losing in the Qualifying 3 play off to Belfast High School Former pupils in the last minute of the game. At the end of the game we thought only one team was going up, whatever happened we both got to go up.

What's the best team you have played this season?

Armagh are always a tough team to play but that's probably more down to them being stubborn like we are, City of Derry have a lot of quality players.
