Understrength Lisburn lose out in B&D second leg

After an excellent result at Raceview, Lisburn required just four matches at home to progress into the next round.

However, they couldn’t manage to muster up the points as Ballymena claimed four of the seven games to seal the route into the next round.

Lisburn’s Stephen Leathem, to be fair, had no chance against Irish international Dermot McElroy and he was well beaten.

Kyle Patton holed from six feet at the fifth to square his match up but he went on to lose out to Michael McGarry on the 17th green. Stephen Shaw got off to a good start in his game but lost on the 15th green to Adam Barr.

All of a sudden, Lisburn needed to win all four of the remaining matches.

And when Jack Shellard also lost out on the 15th, Ballymena had secured a stunning win against the odds.

Lisburn won the last two matches thanks to Norman McNellis and Matt Lyness but that proved only too little, too late.

Andrew Norrby was representing Lisburn for the first time in his match with Jake Carson but they were called in when Ballymena had established an unassailable lead.
