Shin injury ends Andy's season?

ANDY Smith may have played his last game of the season for Ballymena United.

The former Northern Ireland striker hobbled off in Saturday's win over Institute with a badly-gashed shin and was taken by ambulance to Antrim hospital where he had around 15 stitches inserted in the wound.

“It looks as though Andy won't play again,” confirmed Roy Walker, ahead of tonight's (Tuesday) rearranged trip to Newry City (7.45pm).

“We have Gary Muir and Kevin Kelbie fresh to come in for Tuesday night and we'll need them because we effectively finished the game on Saturday with nine men.

Albert Watson ended up playing up front because he had a muscle pain in his hamstring and posterior area and Michael came off with a bash on the ankle so we want to see how that settles.

“We have picked a squad for Tuesday night which has four or five younger lads in the squad so there will be opportunities,” added Roy.

United play their final home game of the season when they entertain Lisburn Distillery this Saturday (3pm).

KENNY Whitbread has stepped down as United's company secretary, after a number of seasons in the post.

The Ballymena man has served his hometown club in a number of capacities over the years, including a spell as youth team manager.
