Unlikely defeat for Swifts U10s

THE Swifts started brightly against the lads from Kilkeel and some good attacking play on the left from Ben Johnston and Paul Travers in central midfield created a chance that Caolan Teer fired narrowly wide.

The game was very tight for the first half until the deadlock was broken when Mark Bronte took advantage of a Teer rebound to fire low into the bottom left hand corner.

It was Bronte who doubled the advantage minutes later when he followed in a shot from Travers to score his second of the game. Valley threatened throughout the half but Darren Sloane was magnificent in nets to keep them at bay.

The second half saw Valley open their account only for Leon Shimmons to restore the Swift’s two goal advantage with a superb long range strike.

The ding dong battle continued with Valley scoring again before a clever flick from Paul Travers made it 4-2.

With Rathfriland seemingly in control and five minutes to go the Valley team found their shooting boots to score three great goals to snatch what had seemed like an unlikely win.
