Veteran’s League team, Lurgan 2 took a full ten point win against Markethill at Lurgan on Monday.

It was close encounter with the home team winning by 4 shots which puts them ten points ahead of Markethill who had shared the league lead after the previous week’s fixtures. Roy Poots, Gordon Bell, Bobby Jones and Bobby Ruddell, skip, were on Rink 1 for Lurgan 2. Having dropped a three-shot on the third end they were 5-3 down after the fifth end but won 15–13.

Alan Briggs, skip, fought hard against and was well supported by Peter McGrail, Derek Henderson and Gerry Stewart. Having taken the initial two ends they trailed by just one shot at 6–5 after the eighth end but six shots off the next three ends for the visitors took them 12–5 ahead. Markethill responded to lead 16–12. but they made sure by taking the last end by a shot to win 17–15.

Lurgan 1 Veterans struggled to find form at Bessbrook who won the match by seven shots. The visitors led 15-13 but Bessbrook hit back to win by seven shots. Rink wins were divided which gave the Lurgan side four points to keep them in mid-league position. Bobby Boness skipped on Rink 1 along with Declan McCabrey, Bobby Livingstone and Vincent Devlin.

The first half was evenly divided with the rink score standing at 6-5 after the seventh end. However the home rink pulled away to lead 10–5 after the tenth end. Boness’ rink found things difficult and were seven shots adrift after the fifteenth end. A four-shot win on the sixteenth end brought the visitors into contention but five shots off the last two ends ended the game in favour of the Bessbrook rink at 20-12.

Sam Neill, skip, along with Brian Brown, Albert Houston and Melvyn Hamilton had a tough battle before securing a narrow 17-16 win.
