Vets end season on high

Lurgan’s Senior team travelled to the Pleasure Gardens Green to play Portadown in the traditional pre-season friendly and were disappointed to lose by 29 shots but with Kristofor Matchett’s rink just failing by one shot for a rink-win against Maurice Whitla’s home rink.

Lurgan’s B team put up a tremendous display at home to Portadown B by winning convincingly by 73-48.

They achieved success by winning well on three rinks - all by a good winning margin - Sam Neill (21), Billy Hyde (6); Gerry Stewart (20), Noel Orr (15), and Wilfie McCullough (18) Kenneth Mullholland (12). Neil Sloan’s rink was narrowly beaten 15-14 by Greg McCartan’s in a closely fought encounter which went to the last end.

Both teams are involved this Saturday in more pre-season friendlies with the A team being away to NICS and the B team at home to Division 2 side, Dungannon - starting at 2 pm. Lurgan Ladies commence their NIWBA Division 1 campaign away to Dungannon on Thursday afternoon, 2.30 pm start.
