Victoria finish third in league

A TWO run victory saw Victoria clinch third place in their league section to cap a fine season.

They faced Ards in their final game of the season at Gordon Playing Fields in a match reduced to 20 overs a side.

Robert Black and Jonathon Bunting opened the batting for the home side and built a substantial partnership before Black fell for a stylish 24.

Bunting went for 45 and Garry McClune hit a quickfire 23 to get the run rate up to seven an over.

But they struggled a little after this and finally mananged to make 128 in their 20 overs.

Ards started well, scoring at six and over, before McLune took the first wicket to fall.

However the other Ards opening bat was playing a fine innings which was to come to a cruel end, as he tried to manoeuvre a ball off his legs. The ball caught the shoulder of the bat and ricocheted onto his cheekbone He was cut and had to go to hospital as a precaution.

Neil Rdaford took a wicket and there was a run out but Ards still looked favourites as they reached the final stages.

Stephen Bunting claimed a run out and Dave Reiman had a batsman stumped by keeper Steve Adair.

Ards required five to win from the final over. Jonathan Bunting brought himself back on and bowled a memorable over, limting Ards to only three runs for a narrow victory.

This rounded off a good season for Victoria as they ended up in third position.
