Once again, it will take this year’s anticipated 1,500 or so runners on a winding 26.2 mile circuit across the city, hugging both sides of the River Foyle to a Guildhall Square finish.

The marathon course is the same as last year and has been designed to minimise disruption to traffic and pedestrians on the day.

The city centre will be open for business as usual with only minor restrictions to traffic and on-street parking during the day. Drivers are urged to follow the directions of race officials on the course.

The major car parks at Foyleside and Quayside will be open all day as usual. Foyleside East car park, however, may be busier than usual as it is the designated car park for the marathon runners.

Course director, Scott Galbraith said: “The marathon is going to be one of the highlights of the summer in the city; a great day out for everyone to enjoy.

“We’ve done our best to keep traffic disruption to a minimum on the day, although obviously with so many runners taking part, there are going to be a few delays here and there, so my best advice is to allow an extra 10 – 15 minutes journey time if heading into the city centre.

“Better still, leave the car at home and come out to support the runners, who will be making their way into the city centre after a gruelling 25 or so miles as they will need all the support they can get.”

He continued: “We are asking drivers to please follow directions from the Race Officials/PSNI on the day and that will help keep traffic flowing along the main city routes.

“The race starts at 8.30am from the Everglades Hotel at Prehen with the first finisher expected in the Guildhall Square by 10.50am.”

Details of any changes to traffic arrangements can be viewed online at www.thewalledcitymarathon.com.
