Victory as school hosts first game in Tasmanian Shield

The game was tremendously well supported by parents, past pupils, pupils and staff and the team started superbly with David McCracken scoring his first ever Irish Schools goal on six minutes after some great play by McKee and Woods.

Some more fine play by Armstrong and Reid put Woods in the circle from an acute angle just moments later and again it was a crowd pleasing finish on the reverse from Woods who dispatched the ball into the side netting to make it comfortable at 2-0.

The Bangor side went about their business with some well worked platforms themselves and were difficult to break through, credit to their emphasis on preparation and indeed application.

Several decent chances to seal the game simply fizzled out and a combination of simply too much hockey matched by some excellent goalkeeping from the visiting keeper kept the game at 2-0.

The second half saw much better use of the ball and real quality in vital parts of the pitch. With the ascendancy up front the Academy stepped up the pressure and a great ball from McCluskey to Warnock was rapidly latched onto by the big forward as he swivelled supremely past the final defender before smashing home a sensational goal into the bottom corner.

This three goal margin signalled changes and the players introduced did very well indeed, Woods again having several chances to increase the scoreline but failing to cash in.

Overall an injury free and positive result for this emerging side against a well organised and determined Bangor Grammar School.
