Victory for Lisnagelvin in the Irish Junior Cup

LISNAGELVIN, who were playing in the Irish Junior Cup for the first time, were worthy 81 shots to 63 winners over Dublin side Skerries at the Lisnagelvin Greens, on Saturday.

They got off to a nervous start and after five ends were trailing by eight shots. G Lindsay and B Roberts' Rinks started picking up shots and by the halfway stage had a comfortabe lead.

The Dubliners fought back and had reduced the margin to nine shots, but in the last few ends the Lisnagelvin boys picked up some good counts and at the end of the game were easy winners.

They have been drawn against Portrush in the next round.

Meanwhile there was mixed fortune for City of City of Derry in the Senior League.

In a re - arranged game with Dunluce at Bushmills on Saturday they lost 61 shots to 90 and got only 1 point out of a possible 7.

They performed much better at Coleraine on Monday evening and beat the Lodge Road men 77 shots to 62. Jim Campbell who was restored to Skip led the way with his Rink winning 21 - 6 against JCalvin's four.

While the Northern Ireland Provincial Bowling Association Progressive Building Society Division One saw Brooke Park defeat Limavady 74-49.

In Progressive Division Two Limavady B defeated neighbours City of Derry B, while in Progressive Division Three Lisnagelvin had a fantastic 66-54 win over Ballycastle B and Dungiven had an equally impressive 84-55 success over Portstewart.

Tomorrow (Thursday) night the NIPBA Youth singles first round takes centre stage, while Limavady travel to Portrush in the Progressive Piggott Cup First Round.

On Friday night the NIPBA Fours Round 2 is down for decision, while on Saturday in the Progressive Senior League Portrush host City of Derry.

Next Monday night the Progressive Piggott Cup quarter-final ties sees either Portrush or Limavady host Brookgreen and City of Derry travel to Ballymoney; next Tuesday evening in the Progressive Division One Cookstown B take on Limavady, while Brooke Park visit Magherafelt.

On Wednesday, May 19 in the Progressive Division Two sees City of Derry B face Portrush B and Limavady B visit Coleraine B, while in the Progressive Division Three Dungiven travel to Letterkenny and Lisnagelvin host Culrathain.
