Victory in derby for Seconds

THE Ladies Seconds made the short journey to Ferris Park to take on Dromore in a highly contested local derby.

Banbridge won numerous short corners throughout the match and it was on their second attempt that Nadene Black connected with the ball to open the scoring for the Bann side.

A complete forward line change brought Ashleigh Mitchell, Katie Uprichard and Sarah Anderson on to the pitch and it wasn’t long before Ashleigh Mitchell found herself in the right place to catch a rebound and pop the ball into the back of the net.

The Banbridge defence of Kate Cunningham, Jessica Hassan, Joanna Palnoch and Robyn Turkington quickly and skilfully cut out any counter attack that Dromore produced returning the ball to the Banbridge attack.

Banbridge dominated the second half just as much as they did in the first. Helen Sawyers came into her own in the middle of the pitch and was a great forward driving force while Jemma Lyle always found herself in a strong position to prevent any attack from her player.

When goal keeper Alanna Little was called into action she easily dealt with any threat from Dromore. Banbridge kept the pressure on the Dromore defence until Megan Whan found herself unmarked in the middle off the D and picking up a loose ball made no mistake in firing it home past the Dromore keeper.

Banbridge continued the half with great play Sarah Anderson was unlucky not to add her name to the score sheet, hitting the post after picking up a great ball through from Robyn Turkington. Congratulations to player of the match Alannah Magee and thanks to Robin and to George for umpiring.
