VIDEO: Lions winger checks out the action at Ophir Sevens

Ulster and Ireland winger Tommy Bowe was the guest of honour at the annual Ophir Sevens tournament at Magowan Park, Mallusk on Saturday.

Bowe, who will miss the start of the new rugby season through injury, was impressed with the skills on display at the tournament, which marked the official opening of Ophir’s new playing facilities.

The British and Irish Lions winger proved a big hit with the crowd as he took the time to chat and pose for photographs.

The event, supported by Newtownabbey Borough Council, attracted teams from several top clubs, including Queen’s University, Ards and Lisburn.

Once again Queen’s proved a cut above the rest as they overcame Lisburn in the final to win the Will Totten Memorial Trophy. But there was also plenty for the home crowd to cheer as Ophir enjoyed a four tries to one victory over local rivals Academy in the plate final.
