Pegasus were two up within eight minutes but Steph Jameson, reduced the deficit by converting a penalty stroke. Laura McAlpine then had a golden opportunity to equalise but failed to connect with the cross.

Pegasus then converted a penalty stroke of their own and then an penalty corner to lead 4-1 at the break.

They then added sixth to end a dismal day at the office for the Elks.

Next up for the Elks is a trip to Portadown in the Ulster Shield before opening their Premier League season away to Belfast Harlequins.

Elsewhere, Ballyclare Ladies lined out with several new recruits for their opening Senior Cup clash away to Knock Ladies, but were unable to prevent a 5-1 defeat.

Despite Ballyclare’s best efforts, the Knock girls had the edge and turned round two up after having netted their second from open play.

Knock added three more goals before Vikki Milligan prevented the whitewash, when she drilled the ball in to the bottom corner of the net.

“We have a lot of changes this year ... but we have a couple of Ballyclare High School pupils coming through, while Rebekah Beattie (nee Mills) is back this season. We are experiencing some teething problems, but hopefully we will click together for the start of the league campaign,” she added.

The next match in the Senior Cup is away to Dungannon. Meanwhile, Mark Speers has come in as a new coach for the 2nd and 3rd XIs.
