Village are well beaten by Swifts

Markethill Swifts 4

Seapatrick 1

SEAPATRICK were taught a footballing lesson away to Markethill on Saturday.

The home side knocked the ball about much more fluently and accurately than the Village. They were much sharper in their thinking and in their play and were unlucky after only eight minutes on the clock.

An inswinging corner was destined for the top corner only for front man Clifford Sands to head of the line.

They did get their first goal five minutes later. As the ball came into the Seapatrick box from wide, Markethill's big striker sent a speculative overhead kick crashing into the back of the net.

Seapatrick showed great character to equalize almost immediately. Davy Dawson played a great free kick from his own half into the Markethill box. Striker Gary McGrath ran onto it diagonally from the edge of the area and thumped his first time effort into the bottom corner.

Markethill's second came via route one football. The keeper punted a long ball up the pitch and as the Markethill centre midfielder left his marker for dust, he squeezed himself between Seapatrick's central defenders and volleyed first time into the roof of the net.

Seapatrick were very unlucky not to get an equalizer; first Darren McGrath sent a back post header over the bar and then Aaron McAvoy made a great run into the box only for the keeper to make the save. Gary McGrath's first time turn and shot was also saved by the keeper.

However the home team managed to get a third. They made a great run down the left and as their number eleven skipped past Seapatrick's right back he dribbled unchallenged into the box. As Andy Chambers challenged he went to ground and his hand hit the moving ball. The referee rightly pointed to the spot and their skipper despatched the resultant penalty.

Their fourth came as their number 14 volleyed from the edge of the box and into the net.

To be fair to Seapatrick their heads never dropped and they still tried to push for another goal but it wasn't to be.
