Villagers celebrate fine season

WARINGSTOWN Cricket Club celebrated a successful 2010 season with their annual awards ceremony at The Banville Hotel last Friday night.

While it was a season of what might have been for the first eleven who went close in all competitions, the remainder of the teams have been collecting plenty of silverware.

The seconds, under the captaincy of Geoffrey Heyburn, once again won Division Two Section One at a canter while also reaching the Junior Cup final for a second successive season.

Andrew Beattie’s thirds cruised to the title while the fourths, under the captaincy of Giles Paris, were also league winners after a dramatic win against Muckamore earlier this month.

The underage teams were hugely successive, with the under 13s setting the standard by going all the way to the All-Ireland final before losing heroically to Donemana.

Kyle McCallan was the player of the season for the first eleven after hitting well over 1,000 runs and claiming more than 40 wickets in all competitions.

The most eye-catching displays from a younger player came from Adam Dennison, the under-13 all-rounder. He made runs at all levels, and was crowned fourth eleven player of the year.
