Virus takes toll on Cambridge House rugby squad

THE LOSS of four first team regulars two in midweek and two on the morning of the match to a virus was always going to stretch the meagre Cambridge House resources and resulted in Banbridge being too strong for the local side.

With Cambridge House needing everyone fit to have a sporting chance, the strength of a dozen upper sixth Banbridge players proved too great a challenge, who only had half a dozen of similar stature. The first half was even until the last couple of minutes when BA equalised Timmy Small’s 5th minute penalty and then went over for a try to lead 10 – 3 at the interval.

The second period proved the opening statement all too true as BA simply out powered Cambridge House and ran in a comfortable 20 points without reply.

The Ballymena side go on to play Limavady Grammar at home in the Shield quarter final on February 25.

Ryan Uprichard was awarded House’s Northern Bank man of the match.
