Visitors take the fizz out of Money

BALLYMONEY entertained Cork Harlequinns at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre on Saturday in their penultimate game in the Irish League and as always this was a tight battle between them.

The first quarter belonged to Cork and it took some solid defending from the Money girls .

to keep their forwards at bay and prevent them from opening the score, Gayle Adams in the heart of the Money defence had a particularly good quarter breaking down many advancing attacks.

Early in the second quarter Ballymoney won five short corners in a row but failed to open the score line as Cork held strong and cleared their lines. In the 30th minute of play S.J.Greer was called upon to make a good save from Cliodhna Sargent. but on the 31st minute of play Katie Mullan played the auto pass and weaved her way down the left hand side of the pitch before sending an inch perfect pass to Nikki Parke who fired the ball into the near post for the waiting Aine Kearney to flick the ball into the net.

The Money led however was to be short lived as two minutes later Cliodhna Sargent made up for her earlier miss when she drilled in a short corner strike to level the scoring just before half time.

At the start of the 3rd quarter Katie Mullan’s strike at a short corner went narrowly wide and this was to be the pattern for both of the teams in this quarter as both tems tried to increase their tally but to no available.

The final quarter belonged to Cork and it took two stops from Julie Nelson on the Ballymoney goal line to stop Cork from increasing their tally. Rachael McSherry however sealed the game for cork two minutes from time with a strike from a short corner from Harlequinns

Final score 2-1 to Cork.
