The second-team will again be skippered by another long-serving club member, Christine Clarke, with 18-year-old Holly Robinson stepping up in support as her deputy.

And in keeping with the club’s continuing policy of encouraging youth development wherever possible, a youthful combination of 20-year-old Danielle Mulligan and 16-year-old Sarah McAtamney will take their places as captain and vice-captain respectively of the club’s thirds

Having served as Carrick Ladies first-team captain on a number of occasions in the past, Waide is no stranger to the considerable expectations within the club as yet another new hockey season opens. But, having been part of last year’s team which came so very close to winning promotion, Christine is already preparing herself for an exciting season’s hockey.

“I’m delighted to return to the role of captain,” said Christine, “although its clear I’ve a lot to live up to if I’m to match Lois Passmore’s example from last season.

“Under Lois’ captaincy, we enjoyed our best league finish for quite a few years, plus an appearance in the McConnell Shield final.

“I know we’ve lost a number of regulars since last year, but we’ve some really exciting new faces on board for the new season and the players have already developed an encouragingly strong bond. Having Chloe (Mitchell) in support as vice-captain is also a big positive for me as she has a super rapport with both me and the entire squad.

“Our new coaching team of Davy Menaul and Neil McConnell is also a big plus and I only hope we can start to repay all the hard work they have already put in with us during pre-season.”
