Wallace coach hails ‘special group of boys’

Having seen his side overcome holders Methody 12-10 in the semi final, having lost out to Methody at the same stage last year, the coach was delighted to see his side go one step further.

However, the Wallace coach also stressed the importance of the boys raising their performance level for the final.

Coach Suffern said: “They’re a very special group of boys, they work really hard and they’ll be really driven to get their performance levels up in the final, because we know it’s going to take an increase in our performance to get a win in the final.

“It was always going to be close against Methody. We’ve had a few close encounters in recent years and they’re a very good cup team.

“We knew it was going to be difficult. We thought we didn’t play superbly well, but we showed a lot of character to stick in at the end and got a really good couple of tries to win the game, and managed to hold out at the end so we’re very pleased with the result but maybe not so pleased with our performance which will hopefully be better in the final.”

The coach added: “Inst are a very good side. Their performances this year have been very good, they’ve had some really good performances against Dublin schools and good results. They’ve sort of come in under the radar this season, there’s been a lot of focus on Methody and ourselves and I think they’re going to be a very difficult side to play against in the final.

“I think we’re quietly confident to an extent that we know if we can play to our potential that we should be able to win the game, but at the same time we’re very aware that we feel we are under performing at the minute and we need to have an increase in our standard.

“It’s very important that we have a good week’s preparation and the player’s are fully aware of that and will be fully committed to all our preparations for the final.”
