Wallace hat-trick secures vital points for Parkview

A JENNY Wallace hat-trick was the highlight of Parkview Ladies II Junior League win.

Penny Purdy's girls travelled to Coleraine in search of much-needed Section 4 points, and collected all three on a 3-0 scoreline against Coleraine Ladies II.

The first half was spent mainly in Coleraine territory where several penalty corners were gained. From one taken by Maureen Galbraith midfielder Ruth Hughes had a shot on target, but the home goalie was equal to the task, but Jenny Wallace fared better from another.

This time Maureen and Ruth linked again, before the latter set it up for Jenny to open the scoring from close range.

Continuing to have the major share of possession, the Doagh girls kept on the pressure with Fiona Cleland and Tracy Hagan combining effectively down the left flank, and it was one of their sorties that led to Jenny doubling the lead after twenty minutes.

Parkview missed an opportunity to extend the lead when awarded a penalty flick, but the home keeper pulled off a stunning save to deny Maureen Galbraith.

During the second session Parkview continued to dictate the terms of play, and were rewarded with a third goal after ten minutes. Ruth Hughes did all the work for this one, when after winning the ball she carried it forward past several opponents before finding Jenny Wallace, who duly completed her hat-trick by rattling the backboard.

At the opposite end Lynne Newburn scarcely had a touch all afternoon, but near the end she had to make one save to record one of her easiest-earned clean sheets of the season.

Commenting, club PRO Emma Stubbs said: “This was a virtual six pointer against one of our main relegation rivals, and the three welcome points lifted us out of the bottom two in the Junior League Section 4.

“However with two fixtures to fulfil we will have to battle it out with Ballymena II and Coleraine II, with two of this trio likely to drop to Section 5.”

Parkview Ladies II: Lynne Newburn, Penny Purdy (C), Maureen Galbraith, Wilma McCullough, Emma Alexander; Fiona Cleland, Ruth Hughes, Jenny Wallace, Selena McCallin, Tracy Hagan, Victoria Donaldson.

The 2nd XI's next fixture is in Dungannon where they will be hoping to get at least a point from the clash with their mi-table opponents.

Meanwhile, the seniors had no game last weekend, but they resume their Senior League Section 2 programme on Saturday afternoon when they will be off to Coleraine, where they will be seeking vital points as they compete with Banbridge and Coleraine to avoid the dreaded drop.
