Wallace ’homing’ in on title
It’s a dream scenario for Patrick Wallace, the Northern Ireland championship played on the tables in his adopted home club as he bids to break the record by winning the title for a seventh time.
Dungannon’s former professional starts the defence of his crown on Sunday at the Pot Black club in Cookstown and he will be the hot favourite to retain the title and thus beat Jack McNally’s superb six win achievement. But it’s not going to be easy, with the central venue attracting the largest number of entries for a good number of years, including a host of former champions.
These include double winners like Jordan Brown, Joe Mears and Dermot McGlinchey as well as rising starts such as Declan Lavery from Antrim and Declan Brennan from Newry.
Play starts at 10am and will all day long over the next two Sundays at the well-appointed Pot Black club in Cookstown’s Burn Road.
