Waringstown looking for good cup run

WITH a more settled team Waringstown are hoping that this season they can get a good run in the Irish Senior Cup.

They begin their campaign in Dublin this Saturday against Old Belvedere with a 12 noon start.

“We haven’t done ourselves justice or had the luck of the draw in the last few years,” said captain Jonathan Bushe. “A lot of people in the NCU are wondering why one of the teams hasn’t got to a final recently.”

Their opponents are an unknown quantity to Waringstown although they defeated an NCU team in the preliminary round, winning narrowly against Downpatrick.

The villagers were waiting yesterday (Wednesday) to hear if Gary Kidd would be back in time to play after Ireland’s exit from the Twenty20 World Cup.

If he is available he will come into a side full of confidence, especially Kyle McCallan who played a wonderful innings last week against North Down.

“Wherever I have played, whether with Waringstown or Ireland, that was the best innings I have ever seen,” added Jonathan. “Kyle really is at the peak of his powers at the moment.”

Lurgan meanwhile have a free date this Saturday.
